The City of Tours extends over an area of 34.36km. including 150 hectares for the historic centre. In 2012, the urban area had 295,404 residents including 134,978 residents for the City of Tours. The City of Tours is a municipality which has 2,742 permanent officers.

Founded in 1970 the University of Tours (Université François-Rabelais de Tours) is a multidisciplinary university offering academic programs at the bachelor, master and doctorate levels. Over 24,000 students attend the university each year - 12% of them are coming from abroad.

Created in 2001 by the director of higher education of the Ministry of Education, in partnership with the ‘Centre’ Regional Council, the European Food History and Culture Institute is a scientific and cultural development agency closely associated with the University of Tours.

The Association for Professional Training of the City of Tours is an organisation which manages an apprentice training centre (CFA) and employs 100 staff. Each year the CFA trains nearly 1,000 young people from 15 to 26 years old, coming mainly from the Centre region, in very diverse professional sectors.

The storekeepers and craftsmen of Les Halles de Tours opens you the doors of the largest fresh product's place in the city. Gathered under the same roof, 38 professionals propose every day fruits and vegetables, meats and fishes, special breads and cake pastries, wines and delicatessens to eat healthy and full of taste products.
 

With its 17 faculties, 27 000 students and more than 2000 researchers and university teachers Nicolas Copernicus University is not only one of the biggest universities in Poland but it's also a proving research centre in many scientific fields.
